    No. 6 North Carolina closes out the 2012 regular season Thursday when ACC Coastal division foe Virginia Tech comes to Boshamer Stadium for a three-game series set for Thursday and Friday at 6 p.m. with Senior Day set for 2 p.m. Saturday. Seniors Jacob Stallings and Jimmy Messer will be honored before Saturday's contest for their four-year careers in Carolina Blue.

    The 14th annual ACC/Big Ten Challenge on Nov. 27-28 will be highlighted by North Carolina at Indiana, Ohio State at Duke and North Carolina State at Michigan, six programs expected to be highly ranked entering the 2012-13 season. ESPN, ESPN2 and ESPNU will combine to televise all 12 games of the two-day event matching top college basketball programs playing for conference supremacy and the Commissioners Cup.

    The University of North Carolina's Jose Hernandez has swept two prestigious Intercollegiate Tennis Association regional awards for the Carolina Region as announced Tuesday by the ITA Awards Committee. The native of Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic garnered both the Arthur Ashe Leadership & Sportsmanship Award for the region as well as the Rafael Osuna Sportsmanship Award.

    University of North Carolina senior Catherine O'Donnell captured the individual championship of the NCAA West Regional. O'Donnell fired a 2-under-par 70 on Saturday to finish with a 7-under 209 total to win the title by one stroke. The No. 6 ranked Tar Heels placed seventh thus advancing on to the NCAA Championships which will be played May 22-25. Carolina carded a 6-over 294 in the final round and finished with an 880 total at the Colorado National Golf Club.

    No. 7 North Carolina will seek a third consecutive trip to the NCAA quarterfinals when the Tar Heels face 10th-seeded Miami Thursday at 7 p.m. on the McWhorter Courts at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex on the campus of the University of Georgia. Carolina won the regular season meeting against the Hurricanes, a 4-3 decision in Chapel Hill.
