Tar Heels Will Face Syracuse With Final Four On The Line

The unseeded University of North Carolina women's lacrosse team will play fifth-seeded Syracuse in the NCAA Tournament quarterfinals on Saturday May 17 at 1 p.m. at the Carrier Dome in Syracuse, N.Y. The winner of the contest will advance to the NCAA Final Four to face the winner of the game between Princeton and top-seeded and three-time defending national champion Northwestern. (more)

No. 1 Miami Opens Series With 12-2 Win Over No. 2 Tar Heels

Yonder Alonso and Dave DiNatale each homered and left-hander Chris Hernandez pitched 7 2/3 strong innings in No. 1 Miami's 12-2 win over No. 2 North Carolina Thursday at Mark Light Field. The Hurricanes (43-6, 23-3 ACC) broke the game open with six runs in the seventh to clinch the Atlantic Coast Conference Coastal Division title, ending a run of two straight division crowns for the Tar Heels (43-10, 20-7 ACC). (more)

Carolina Golfers Tied For Seventh At NCAA West Regional

The University of North Carolina men's golf team is tied for seventh place after the first round of the NCAA West Regional. Carolina fired a seven-over-par 295 total at Gold Mountain Golf Club's Olympic Course, a par 72, 7,111-yard layout. The Tar Heels are just six strokes behind first-round leader Oregon. (more)

No. 13 Carolina Falls In NCAA Opener, 3-0

No. 13 North Carolina dropped a 3-0 decision to BYU to open up the NCAA Regional opening round Thursday at Anderson Stadium in Chapel Hill, N.C. BYU's Angeline Quiocho connected on a three-run homer in the top of the sixth inning to propel the Cougars past the Tar Heels as Carolina will now take on Campbell at 3:30 p.m. on Friday in an elimination contest. (more)
