Laura Broomfield had 15 points and 11 rebounds for North Carolina (17-8, 7-5), which has lost three straight - all to ranked teams. Metra Walthour added 11 points and Tyaunna Marshall 10 for the Yellow Jackets (18-7, 8-4 ACC), who broke their tie with the Tar Heels for fourth place in the ACC.

    North Carolina got goals from 12 different players and assists from nine players and played its entire roster as the sixth-ranked Tar Heels defeated the Mercer Bears 20-7 at the Lovett School in Atlanta Sunday afternoon. The Tar Heel men's lacrosse team improves to 2-0 on the young season while the Bears fell to 0-2 with the loss. UNC freshmen scored 12 goals and had seven assists in the match. The 12 goals were a school record total for freshmen in a game.

    Third-ranked North Carolina got four goals from Kara Cannizzaro and three from Abbey Friend on its way to an 11-9 win over fourth-ranked Florida on Saturday afternoon at Fetzer Field in the season opener for both teams. The Tar Heels improve to 1-0 with the victory and won their first game of the season for the seventh year in a row. Florida falls to 0-1 with the defeat.

    North Carolina beat Maryland 195.225-192.600 Friday in Carmichael Arena. This was the second meeting between the two schools in six days, and the teams split the home-and-home series. UNC senior Morgan Evans and junior Elizabeth Durkac took first and second place in the all-around competition as the Tar Heels scored their best overall score of the year.
