    CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The UNC men's and women's fencing teams wrapped up the 2008-09 season recently by announcing team awards, including honorees for each weapon.

    The Tar Heel men finished the season 28-8 in dual meets and won the Mid-Atlantic Collegiate Fencing Association (MACFA) championship, while the women's squad was 17-12. (UNC's women did not compete in a conference tournament.)

    The Tar Heels were represented at the NCAA Championships by two men's sabre competitors, senior Bobby Ziechmann, who finished 13th, and sophomore Kevin Ziechmann, who reached the tournament as an alternate and finished 21st.

    Carolina finished 20th overall in the NCAA team competition.
