    CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Five different University of North Carolina swimmers won individual events Friday night as the Tar Heel swimming program hosted the North Carolina Aquatic Club Tar Heel Invitational Mile Meet at the Maurice J. Koury Natatorium in Chapel Hill. The 10-event program featured two relays each for men and women as well as individual events in the 50 free, 400 IM and 1650 free.

    The evening began with the North Carolina "A" relay of Sarah Tanner, Eliza Butts, Katie Nolan and Katura Harvey snaring the win in the 200-yard freestyle relay at 1:35.95. On the men's side, the UNC quartet of Steve Cebertowicz, Evan Reed, Brad Hamilton and Jeff James touched first in 1:24.84.

    In the other relay event, the women's winners at the 200-yard medley distance were the unit of Carly Smith, Katie Marsh, Sarah Tanner and Eliza Butts with a clocking of 1:45.41. On the men's side, the relay quartet of Jim Flannery, Will Colbert, Drew Oberg and Alex Ismail turned in the winning time of 1:33.74.

    Tar Heel swimmers took top honors in both 50-yard freestyles and in both 400-yard individual medleys.

    Sophomore Laura Moriarty won the women's 400 IM in 4:22.41 while junior Tyler Harris took the men's 400 IM in a swift clocking of 3:54.30.

     

     

    Senior Eliza Butts claimed the title in the women's 50-yard freestyle in 23.75 seconds while sophomore Evan Reed won the men's event in 21.10.

    UNC women's swimmers took second, third and fourth in the mile with junior Ashley Miller turning in the top time of any Tar Heel in 16:49.92.

    Fellow juniors Chip Peterson and Joe Kinderwater waged a spirited race in the men's 1650-yard freestyle with Peterson earning a two-plus second margin over Kinderwater. Peterson touched in 15:28.10, followed by Kinderwater at 15:30.33
