CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - After swimming in the NCAC Mile Meet last night, the Tar Heel swimming and diving teams defeated Georgia Tech at Koury Natatorium Halloween morning. The men's team improved to 5-0, while the women picked up another win to go to 4-1. The UNC women defeated the Yellow Jackets 165-128 and the Tar Heel men won 166.5-119.5.

Both teams remain undefeated in the ACC with 2-0 conference marks.

"It's good to face the challenge of having to race one night and then again the next morning to prepare for championship meets. Having a meet last night gave us the opportunity to mix up the lineup this morning, allowing the swimmers to stay fresh," said Tar Heel head coach Rich DeSelm.

There were several races where the Tar Heels went 1-2-3, highlighting the depth on the Carolina rosters this season.

"We're not only getting to compete against solid opponents, but this also generates excellent competition within our teams. Each week everyone's trying to improve their times and move up the depth chart," said DeSelm.

On the women's side, Katie Keel dominated the breaststroke events, winning both the 100-yard breast and the 200. Katura Harvey was also a double event winner in the 200-yard freestyle and the 500-yard freestyle.

"Katie is a great athlete to coach and a great person to have in this program. She really stepped up today, took a leading role and got the job done," said DeSelm.

Junior Vinny Pryor won both the 100 and 200-yard breaststrokes and sophomore Jim Flannery took first the 100 and 200-yard backstrokes to help the men swim their way to victory. The men also took the top three spots in the 200, 500 and 1000-yard freestyles as well as the 200-yard butterfly.

The divers performed well on the men's side, going 1-2-3 on one-meter. Sophomore Jenna Moore took the top spot in the women's one-meter and freshman Chay Malvasio placed first on three-meter.

The Tar Heels will be in action again at Koury Natatorium next Friday, November 6 at 3 p.m. against Maryland.
