  • CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -- Andy Brake, a senior swimmer from Springfield, Va., was the subject of Tuesday's TarHeelBlue.com podcast centering on the Tar Heels' swimming and diving program.

Brake committed to Carolina in the fall of 2006 under the aegis of then head coach Frank Comfort and head coach-designate Rich DeSelm, who officially took over the team's mentorship a year later. Brake, who specializes in the IM, but also swimms breaststroke, backstroke and butterfly, attended Lake Braddock High School and competed for Curl-Burke Swim Club.

Brake has been a regular on the ACC Academic Honor Roll and Dean's List as well as standing on the podium as an All-ACC performer in the 400 IM, including a third-place finish in 2008 and a fourth-place standing in 2010.

Dave Lohse, UNC associate athletic communications director, interviewed Brake for THB.com with the subjects ranging from Brake's performance as a Tar Heel in the pool and in the classroom, his interest in joining the Peace Corps, a list of his five favorite novels of all-time and the closeness he feels for his senior class of 16 swimmers and divers with whom he enrolled with in 2007.

Please enjoy today's podcast but more importantly, check back here at TarHeelBlue.com in a couple of days to see Brake's podcast complete with video, audio and photos. It will be available in a far more extended version in TarHeelBlue.com's Carolina All-Access Video Player.
