"Although we are still learning the circumstances, we are deeply saddened to learn of Antonio's death," UNC Athletic Director Dick Baddour said on Tuesday. "I was particularly impressed with the relationships he established with his student-athletes and the pride he took in representing the University of North Carolina. Our deepest condolences go out to Antonio's family, particularly his wife and son." "Antonio will be truly missed," said head track and field coach Dennis Craddock. "He was a great person and mentor to young people on and off the track. He meant a lot to our program. Antonio was a super coach and always told our athletes to `dream your dreams' and go out and live those dreams. "All of us are devastated," Craddock continued. "Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family, especially his wonderful son Antonio Jr. and wife Cassandra." Pettigrew has been an assistant coach at UNC for four years. He concentrated on coaching sprints, hurdle and relays for the Tar Heel team. He was a 1992 alumnus of St. Augustine's in Raleigh. The phone number of the Wake Chapel Church is 919-892-7776.
