North Carolina Men Place First At NC Collegiates
Oct. 20, 2003 Greenville, N.C. - The North Carolina men's cross country team won the North Carolina Collegiate Cross Country Championships in Greenville, N.C. on Oct. 18. UNC gathered 32 points, ten ahead of second-place High Point University. In all, the Tar Heels men had five runners place in the top ten. Sophomore Pablo Durana was the team's top finisher with a time of 23:58.39 in the 7,900m race. Junior Matt Daly placed fourth with a time of 24:03.21. Senior Bobby Borbet finished seventh with a time of 24:13.23 and junior Matt Sciandra finished eighth with a time of 24:15.80. Sophomore Rob Robertson rounded out the top ten, with a time of 24:23.83. Other top finishers included junior Jesse Rappole in 14th place wih a time of 24:32.17 and sophomore Thomas Falvey placed 26th with a time of 24:54.87. Sophomore Bobby Moffatt was 51st with a time of 25:33.81 and Andrew Craycraft finished 71st with a time of 26:21.52. The Tar Heel men were running without two of their top runners, junior Brian McGovern and senior Scott Price, as they were competing in the NCAA Pre-Nationals in Waterloo, Iowa.
The women's team had most of their top runners competing at the Pre-Nationals, but they still managed to place seventh overall in Greenville, and sophomore Jessica Perry finished first in the Division I results. Perry had a time of 17:21.80 in the 7,900m race. Other top finishers included junior Nicole Boykin, who placed 13th with a time of 17:53.57 and freshman Meg Austin, who placed 30th with a time of 18:27.39.
