Freshman All-America selection ranked as one of the top right-handers out of the UNC bullpen • Earned freshman All-America honors from the NCBWA (first team) and Collegiate Baseball • Outstanding student also claimed a spot on the All-ACC Academic Team and was named to the ACC's Academic Honor Roll • Pitched in 27 games with a 2.78 ERA in 55 innings • Posted a 6-1 record • Struck out 57 batters, while walking only 20, for a 2.9-to-1 strikeout-to-walk ratio • Held the opposition to a .214 average • Went 2-0 with a 2.16 ERA and 26 strikeouts in 25 innings in ACC play • Pitched in five games in the NCAA Tournament and did not allow an earned run in 3 2/3 innings in the College World Series • Fanned three in 2 2/3 innings versus No. 2 LSU June 19 in Omaha • Earned a win in his first collegiate appearance after working 3 2/3 innings at Florida Atlantic Feb. 23 • Posted career highs of six shutout innings and six strikeouts in a win over St. John's March 1 • First ACC victory came with three scoreless frames at Duke March 9 • Went 3 2/3 scoreless innings versus Virginia Tech March 15 • Struck out five over three shutout innings against No. 14 Georgia Tech April 6 • Earned a win with 2 1/3 hitless innings against High Point April 23 • Also picked up win against North Florida May 7 • Sixth victory came with 3 2/3 strong inning at No. 1 Miami May 17. Summer 2008: Made seven starts for the Hyannis Mets of the Cape Cod League • Posted a 2.85 ERA and a 1-3 record • Worked 41 innings with 37 strikeouts and 20 walks.
2007 SEASON
Redshirt season • Underwent thoracic outlet decompression surgery due to a blood clot in his right shoulder in November 2006 and rehabbed throughout the season • Named to the ACC Academic Honor Roll and earned Dean's List honors in the spring semester.
NAPERVILLE CENTRAL HIGH SCHOOL
Four-year standout at pitcher and third base for coach Bill Seiple at Naperville Central High School • Led team to state title as senior • Earned all-state honors as senior from the Chicago Sun-Times, Chicago Tribune and Prep Baseball Report • Two-time all-conference choice and 2006 conference player of the year • Also played football for two seasons • Member of the National Honor Society • Played summer ball with the White Sox Academy and went 5-0 with a 2.10 ERA.
