Junior (2010)
Returned from "Tommy John" surgery after just nine months • Posted a 1-0 record in eight appearances • Threw 9 1/3 innings on the year • Struck out eight and walked five on the year • Posted an ERA of 7.71 • Earned the win against Princeton March 17 when he allowed a run in an inning of work • Went three innings in his lone start of the year against Winthrop March 30 • Struck out a season-high three batters in his season debut against Michigan March 7 • In two April appearances did not allow a hit with a pair of perfect innings versus Coastal Carolina April 14 and Davidson April 21. Summer 2010: Made seven appearances with six starts for the Wilson Tobs of the Coastal Plain League • Finished the summer with a 3-2 record in 35 innings of work • Recorded a 3.86 ERA, allowing 15 earned runs • Struck out 25, while issuing 14 walks.
Sophomore (2009)
Enjoyed a solid campaign as the Tar Heels' top midweek starter before ending his season in mid-April and undergoing "Tommy John" surgery on his right elbow • Made 10 appearances, including seven starts • Went 4-0 with one save and a 4.08 ERA over 35 1/3 innings • Fanned 38 and walked just 14 • Earned first career victory after allowing just one earned run and striking out six in five innings against Gardner-Webb March 4 • Posted career highs of six innings and nine strikeouts in a victory over Appalachian State March 11 • Followed with 5 2/3 scoreless frames and six strikeouts in a win over Princeton March 18 • Allowed three runs and fanned five over five innings to beat Davidson March 31 • Earned a three-inning save against No. 3 Georgia Tech to clinch a key series victory for the Tar Heels in Atlanta • Pitched in relief at No. 20 Florida State before making final appearance of the season April 15 against Winthrop • Member of the ACC Academic Honor Roll.
Redshirt Freshman (2008)
Right-hander appeared in seven games and did not allow a run over 6 2/3 innings • Struck out nine and issued just two walks • Worked a career-best two scoreless innings against Davidson March 25 • Made ACC debut with two strikeouts in an inning of work against No. 2 Florida State April 26 • Also fanned a pair of batters at Charlotte April 22 and versus North Florida May 6 • Made collegiate debut March 5 against William & Mary. Summer 2008: Named to the Coastal Plain League All-Star Team for a standout season with the Wilmington Sharks • Made nine starts on the summer and went 5-2 with a 1.70 ERA over 68 2/3 innings • Held opponents to a .199 average • Walked only 17 and struck out 38 • Also went 3-for-8 at the plate • Pitched a scoreless inning in the all-star game and struck out two.
Freshman (2007)
Redshirt season • Did not see any game action for the Tar Heels. Summer 2007: Pitched for the Wilmington Sharks of the Coastal Plain League • Went 4-4 with a 1.81 ERA in 10 starts • Tossed two complete game shutouts (July 19 vs. Outer Banks, 1-0 and Aug. 2 vs. Columbia second game of a doubleheader, 1-0) • Pitched 54 2/3 innings with 48 strikeouts and 22 walks • Held opponents to a .197 average • Named Rawlings CPL Pitcher of the Week for week seven.
Charlotte Christian High School
Four-year standout at pitcher and first base for Charlotte Christian and coach Greg Simmons • Earned all-state, All-NCISAA, All-Mecklenburg and All-Charlotte Observer honors in 2006 • Two-time all-conference choice • Helped lead team to 2005 and 2006 state titles • Team captain as a senior • Also played football and basketball for two years • Earned the Matt Sobieski Award for most outstanding student-athlete as a senior • Summa Cum Laude student as a junior and senior.
