Pitched in 15 games out of the bullpen • Logged a 3.00 ERA over 15 innings • Struck out 12 and walked just four • Saw action in five ACC games • Longest outing was two scoreless innings at UNC Greensboro April 15 • Struck out a season-best two batters against the Spartans and at No. 1 Miami May 15 • Worked a scoreless inning in the NCAA Tournament win over Mount St. Mary's May 30 • Posted scoreless outings against Duke, Maryland and Boston College in ACC action • Made collegiate debut with a scoreless inning against Kent State Feb. 29 • Also twirled shutout innings versus Princeton, Appalachian State and North Florida. Summer 2008: Went 2-0 with a 3.38 ERA in nine appearances for the Florence SeaWolves of the Coastal Plain League • Made two starts • Walked only eight and struck out 13.

Earned South Carolina 3A state player of the year honors as a left-handed pitcher at A.C. Flora High School • Played three years for coach Andy Hallett • Teamed with UNC classmate Brett Thomas to lead Flora to the 3A state title in 2007 • Garnered all-state honors, as well as regional, area and state player of the year accolades as a senior • Finalist for Mr. Baseball honors • Named team MVP in 2007 • Also an all-state and all-region choice as a junior in 2006 • Won the King of the Hill Award as Flora's top pitcher in 2006 • Played summer ball with American Legion Post 6 and posted a 7-0 record in 2007.
