Appeared in 16 games out of the bullpen as a freshman • Posted a 4.38 ERA and did not earn a decision • Struck out 14 and walked nine • In ACC play made six relief appearances • Threw 12.1 innings on the season • Tossed an inning of scoreless relief in his collegiate debut against UNC Greensboro (2/23) • Struck out a pair at Duke (3/13) in 2.2 innings of work • Tossed a scoreless frame against Princeton (3/17) • Struck out a season-high three batters at No. 13 Miami (4/7). Deep Run High School
Selected in the 44th round (1,327th pick) of the 2009 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft by the Los Angeles Dodgers but elected to attend North Carolina • Three-year letterwinner as a pitcher and first baseman at Deep Run for coach Grant Odell • Earned all-state honors as a utility player as a senior and was an all-district pick as a pitcher as a junior • Won the Virginia Commonwealth Games title in 2008 and helped lead team to a state runner-up finish in 2007 • Three-time all-district academic pick.
