Redshirt season • Did not see any game action for the Tar Heels.
Summer 2007: Played for the Thomasville Hi-Toms of the Coastal Plain League • Recorded one save and posted a 10.12 ERA in five games • Fanned six in eight innings.
MEMORIAL HIGH SCHOOL
Played four years at Memorial High School in Houston for coaches Jeremy York and Chad Payne • Played second base, outfield and pitched • Three-time all-district choice and two-time all-greater Houston area selection • Earned all-state honorable mention at second base as a junior • Team captain as a senior • Two-time all-district quarterback in football • Played football for four years • Also played baseball with the Houston Heat Silver • Named freshman all-around male athlete of the year • Active in Young Life.

Stephen Hunter Rome is the son of Mike and Merrill Rome • Born in Houston • Has two younger siblings • Plans to major in business administration at Carolina • Father played baseball at Kansas and in the Kansas City Royals organization • Lists "Friday Night Lights" as his favorite book • Favorite pro teams are the Houston Astros, Houston Rockets, Houston Texans and Carolina Panthers • Favorite foods are barbeque and crawfish • Would like to switch places for a day with country singer Alan Jackson • Modeled his game after Adam Everett.
