CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - No. 4 national seed North Carolina learned Monday it will host Coastal Carolina, Kansas and Dartmouth in the 2009 NCAA Chapel Hill Regional when the 64-team tournament field was announced on ESPN.

The Tar Heels (42-16) will meet the No. 4 seed Big Green (27-16) at 6 p.m. Friday at Boshamer Stadium with the No. 2 seed Chanticleers (46-14) and No. 3 seed Jayhawks (37-22) opening play at 2 p.m. Friday.

The Chapel Hill Regional champion will advance to face the winner of the Greenville (N.C.) Regional in the Super Regional round for the right to advance to the College World Series in Omaha, Neb.

A top-eight national seed for the third straight season, Carolina is making its 24th NCAA postseason appearance and its record eighth straight. The Tar Heels are 38-20 in NCAA play under Mike Fox and are coming off three straight trips to the College World Series. UNC is 9-0 at home in regional play over the past three seasons.

Carolina is 5-2 all-time against Dartmouth but the teams have not squared off since 1961. UNC and Kansas have never met on the diamond.
