    Tar Heels Scrimmage On Saturday Morning

    With just one week remaining before Opening Day at the Bosh, the North Carolina Tar Heels held a seven-and-a-half inning scrimmage on Friday afternoon that ended in a 7-7 tie.

    TUSCON, Ariz. - North Carolina junior first baseman Dustin Ackley claimed first-team Louisville Slugger All-America honors from Collegiate Baseball newspaper Thursday, becoming the first three-time All-America selection in Tar Heel baseball history. The Walnut Cove, N.C., product earned third-team accolades from Louisville Slugger in both 2007 and 2008.

    The 2009 ACC Player of the Year, Ackley enters the 2009 NCAA Chapel Hill Regional with a .399 average, a career-best 20 home runs and 61 RBI. He leads the ACC in hits, home runs, slugging percentage and total bases and is second in batting. Ackley ranks among the league's top 10 in 10 different offensive categories.

    Also a three-time all-conference pick, Ackley is a semifinalist for the Dick Howser Trophy and the Golden Spikes Award, two of the most prestigious honors in collegiate baseball.

    The Tar Heels open postseason play Friday at 6 p.m. against Dartmouth at Boshamer Stadium.
