On being selected in the first round: “I am extremely excited to have the opportunity to start my professional career with a great organization. It has always been a dream of mine to be a top ten pick and I am ecstatic about the opportunity. It is an honor to be the first pick for a team.”

On the Carolina coaching staff: “I would like to thank the Carolina coaching staff. Those guys have been with me through it all and have really helped me become the person and player I am today. I really appreciate all the hard work that the coaching staff puts in on the side in developing me as a player and person.”

On who he watched the draft with when his name was called: “I watched it with my coaches and teammates, everyone was just as excited. I was not able to celebrate and be with my family, but I am looking forward heading home to Connecticut and celebrating with family and friends. I am ready for their hugs, love and support.”

    Head coach Mike Fox

On Harvey’s selection in the first round: “We are thrilled for Matt. He had a sensational season for us and was one of our team leaders. From his freshman year until now, his development and improvement have been as good any player we have ever had here. He worked very hard to put himself in this position. Matt was determined to have a great junior season and he accomplished that and more. Matt has been a great player and person for our program. We all are very proud of him.”
