January: Had six points, five rebounds and two blocks against Boston College • Had eight points, seven boards, two assists, two blocks and two steals against College of Charleston • Was UNC's defensive player of the game and had four points, six rebounds and three blocks in 20 minutes at Wake Forest • Returned to his native state of Virginia and had six points, seven rebounds and three blocks against the Cavaliers • Had seven points, eight rebounds and three blocks against Miami • Had eight points, eight rebounds and two blocks in the win at Florida State • Played 13 minutes in the first half with Tyler Hansbrough in foul trouble and had eight points, six boards and two blocks as UNC erased a nine-point deficit and built a 46-35 lead.
February: Had six points, four boards, a block and a steal and was Carolina's defensive player of the game in the win at Duke • Had an ACC personal best with 11 rebounds in the win at Miami, his first double-digit rebounding game since Dec. 18 against Evansville • Had three assists in win over Georgia Tech.
March: Was sensational in the win at Virginia Tech as he scored eight points and blocked six shots in just 17 minutes • That was a season high by any Tar Heel • Blocked five second-half shots as the Tar Heels held the Hokies to 38.9 percent shooting in the period.
2009 ACC Tournament: Averaged 8.0 points and 6.5 boards • Made 7 of 13 shots from the floor (.539) • Scored in double figures for the first time since the first Michigan State game with 10 points against Virginia Tech • Had seven offensive rebounds in the two games • Played 21 minutes per game, including 23 against Florida State in the semis, his longest outing since UNC Asheville.
2009 NCAA Tournament: Averaged 8.2 points and 5.5 rebounds • Made 20 of 35 shots from the floor (.571) • Was Carolina's defensive player of the game in the first three wins • Averaged 12.0 points, 6.0 rebounds and 3.0 blocks, was 9 for 13 from the floor and 6 of 9 from the line in Greensboro against Radford and LSU in the first two games • Scored a season-high 15 points against Radford • Went 5 for 7 from the floor and the free throw line • Added five boards and four blocks • Had nine points, seven boards and two blocks against LSU • Played 25 minutes against the Tigers, his longest in any game in which Tyler Hansbrough also played • Limited to 16 minutes against Oklahoma due to foul trouble, but was effective going against Blake Griffin, especially in the first half when he played 13 minutes and helped limit the OU star to three field goals • Had 11 points and a team-high eight rebounds against Michigan State in the NCAA championship.
