    Chris Hirth enters his fourth season as the head athletic trainer for men's basketball at UNC and his 16th year overall working in the Carolina athletic department.

    In addition to his duties with the basketball team, Hirth is the head trainer for the UNC swimming and diving teams, supervisor of the Smith Center athletic training room and a lecturer in the Exercise and Sport Science Department. He also is a staff physical therapist with Carolina's Campus Health Services. In his tenure at UNC, Hirth has worked with the men's soccer, gymnastics, women's lacrosse and track and field squads. He was the trainer for the 2001 Tar Heel men's soccer team that won the NCAA championship.

    Hirth earned a BS in physical therapy from the University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse in 1989 and a MS in human movement science from UNC in 1994.

    Hirth is a member of the National Athletic Trainers Association and the American Physical Therapy Association. He has a PES and CES through the National Academy of Sports Medicine.

    Hirth is a native of Milwaukee, Wis. He and his wife, Anna, have a son, Blake.
