CHAPEL HILL --- Sophomore Jawad Williams and freshmen Rashad McCants scored 23 points apiece to lead four Tar Heels in double figures as the University of North Carolina defeated the EA Sports Southeast All-Stars, 109-97, Saturday at the Smith Center.

Freshmen Sean May and Raymond Felton added 22 and 16 points, respectively. The Tar Heels shot 55.7 percent from the floor, including 10 of 21 from three-point range.

Carolina overcame a 27-18 deficit midway through the opening half with a 26-8 run. Sophomore guard Melvin Scott hit two three-pointers, Williams had nine points and May chipped in seven during the rally. UNC led 50-43 at the half.

EA Sports cut UNC's lead to as few as five points with 14:02 to play, but the Tar Heels extended their lead to as many as 22 points in the second half. A tip-in off a missed free throw by McCants gave the Tar Heels a 71-61 lead with 12:41 to play. UNC's advantage never got below 10 points the rest of the game.

Williams was Carolina's leading rebounder with nine boards. Felton had a game-high nine assists and five steals.

Mike Elliott led EA Sports with 27 points and six assists. Former Georgia Tech guard Fred Vinson hit six three-pointers en route to 20 points.

EA Sports shot 50 percent in the first half (14 of 28), and made 10 of 17 three-point tries in the first half. In the second half, however, the Tar Heels limited EA Sports to 7 of 26 shooting behind the arc and 38 percent shooting overall.

The Tar Heels return to action at the Smith Center on Wednesday, November 13, in an exhibition game against Team Nike at 7:30 p.m.
