CHAPEL HILL --- Former Florida State guard Terrell Baker hit a fadeaway jumper in the lane with 43 seconds to play to break a 72-72 tie and lift Team Nike to a 76-72 exhibition win over the University of North Carolina Wednesday night at the Smith Center.

The Tar Heels played without sophomore Jackie Manuel and freshmen Rashad McCants, who were held out of the game for precautionary reasons with minor injuries. McCants has a bruised left shoulder and Manuel has a groin pull. Both players did not practice since the exhibition game against EA Sports last Saturday.

Baker's jumper and two free throws by Donald Little with 15 seconds to play capped a 20-5 rally by Nike over the final 9:54. The Tar Heels led by 11 points, 67-56, with as little as eight and a half minutes to play.

Carolina scored just one field goal (a layup by Jawad Williams with 6:39 to play) and four free throws in the final 10 minutes of the game. UNC was 18 for 35 from the floor in the first half, but made only nine of 28 field goal attempts in the second half.

Former Marquette guard Cordell Henry led Nike with 15 points, but fouled out of the game with 12:07 to play. Jamaal Davis and Darren Kelly had 13 points apiece and David Graves, who played for Matt Doherty at Notre Dame, had 12.

Freshmen Sean May and Raymond Felton combined to score 45 of Carolina's points. May had a game-high 23 points, 11 rebounds and five steals. Felton scored 20 of his 22 points in the first half, but was 2 for 8 from the free throw line and had five assists and six turnovers.

Williams added 11 points, nine boards and three assists.

The Tar Heels open the 2002-03 regular season on Monday, November 18, against Penn State in the first round of the Owens Corning Preseason NIT. Gametime is 7 p.m.
