Fans won't have to look up into the rafters to see Kenny Smith's number-30 jersey at the Smith Center during Late Night with Roy Williams on Friday, October 14. Smith himself, one of the greatest point guards in Carolina history, will serve as the host for the event.

A 10-year NBA veteran, including a stint with the Houston Rockets when he was the starting point guard on the 1994 and 1995 world championship teams, Smith now serves as the very popular studio analyst on TNT's NBA coverage, where he is paired with similarly loquacious Charles Barkley. His most recent foray into hosting happened last month, when he assembled an all-star roster of NBA players for a charity game in Houston that benefited Hurricane Katrina relief. He also hosts an annual summer basketball camp in Chapel Hill.

Smith Center doors for Late Night with Roy Williams--which will feature the debut of the 2004-05 national championship banner and the first look at the 2005-06 Tar Heels--will open at 5:30 p.m. Park and ride buses will run from the Friday Center and University Mall at 6:30 p.m. Admission is free and out-of-town fans can watch the event (plus Carolina's two exhibition games) live on Carolina All-Access. Please remember that due to an NCAA rules change, the Late Night festivities will begin much earlier this year and fans are encouraged to be in their seats by 8:45 p.m. at the latest. For more details on the event and the latest updated Carolina basketball news, including how you can eat breakfast with Roy Williams next Friday, make sure to check out the Tar Heel basketball links above above.
