Ellington Named Progress Energy Performer Of The Week

Wayne Ellington averaged 20.5 points in road wins at Ohio State and Kentucky and is the Progress Energy Tar Heel of the Week for November 26-December 2, 2007.

Ellington, a sophomore from Wynnewood, Pa., had career highs of 23 points and eight rebounds in Carolina's 66-55 win at Ohio State and had 18 points and two assists in 86-77 win at Kentucky. He hit a long three-pointer as the shot clock expired that clinched the win at Ohio State. He made 14 of 31 shots from the floor, 6 for 11 from three-point range and 7 of 8 free throws in the two games and did not commit a turnover in 32 minutes played.

TYLER HARRIS
Men's Swimming
Freshman, Richmond, Va.

Tyler Harris earned an invitation to the ConocoPhillips 2007 United States Swimming Short Course National Championships in Atlanta, Ga. and made the most of his opportunity. He posted a trio of times whih moved him into the Top 7 of this year's ACC Top Times list. Harris went a 3:50.58 in the 400-yard individual medley, placing fourth in prelims and eighth in the championship finals. The time was a Tar Heel school record, breaking the mark off Dan Summerlin set in 1994. His time is first in the ACC this year by over 2.7 seconds. Harris was 28th in the 200 fly with a time of 1:49.65, third in the ACC this year and 30th in the 500 free in 4:30.10, seventh in the ACC this season.

ASHLEY HOWARD
Women's Swimming
Sophomore, Durham, N.C.

Ashley Howard recorded the top time in the Atlantic Coast Conference for 2007-08 in the 200-yard backstroke as she finished 18th in the event at the 2007 U.S. Swimming Short Course National Championships in Atlanta. Howard clocked a 1:57.84 to move her to the top of the ACC charts with her ttime. Howard's 1:57.84 was a career best and missed Laura Collier's shool record of 1:57.83 set in 2003 by only .01 of a second.

KEEGAN MUELLER
Wrestling, 165 pounds
Junior, Dallas, Texas

Mueller placed third at the prestigious Cliff Keen Inivitational at 165 pounds to lead the Tar Heels to a 13th-place finish in the 50-team field. He went 8-1 on the weekend with a pair of technical falls and won six straight bouts in the consolation bracket to rally for the third-place showing. Mueller is now 12-3 on the young season.
