Moved to offensive line after playing his freshman season (2002) at defensive tackle and redshirting in 2003 • Played primarily on special teams (extra point and field goal attempts).
2002 - Freshman season
Played in all 12 games and started seven at defensive tackle • Finished the season with 19 tackles, including seven solo and 12 assists • Was one of seven true freshmen to see playing time •Made his first career start at Syracuse in the second game of the year • Was forced into a starting position after senior Eric Davis was lost for the year with a knee injury • Started five consecutive games at one point during the season • Had four tackles against both Georgia Tech and Wake Forest • Also had a 3-yard tackle for loss against the Deacons •Had three tackles vs. Maryland and two tackles against Syracuse and Florida State.
West Rowan High School
Three-year starter at West Rowan • Team was 8-3 as a sophomore, 12-2 and conference champs as a junior and 6-5 as a senior • Had 86 tackles, 7.5 sacks, 15 quarterback hurries, an interception for a touchdown and three blocked kicks (one for TD, one for safety) as a senior • Selected to play in the East-West All-Star game • North Piedmont Conference Player of the Year • All-county, all-conference as a senior • Played basketball as a sophomore and junior, but did not play as a senior to prepare for college football • Coached by Scott Young.
