    Had never kicked in a college game until 2000 season, but emerged as one of the most consistent kickers in the country over the last two seasons • An honorable mention All-ACC pick as senior and a second-team All-ACC player as a junior • Has a very strong leg and is accurate • Entered the 2000 season as a walk-on, but earned a scholarship after the Florida State game and elected to return for his final year of eligibility.

    2001 • Senior Season
    Connected on 36 of 37 extra points tries of the season, which helped to set a new UNC record with 66 consecutive extra points, dating back to the start of the 2000 season • The only extra point miss of his career came on a 35-yard attempt due to penalty against SMU, the last regular-season attempt of his career • Did not play in the Oklahoma game due to a sprained ankle suffered three days prior to the game • UNC had no field goal attempts in the first three games of the season, but against FSU Reed was accurate on field goals of 32 and 39 yards • Was 1 for 2 in field goal attempts at NC State, including a 36-yarder to give UNC a 10-6 lead • Established a new career-best with a 49-yard field goal against ECU • That field goal came with 2:48 remaining in the game and helped seal UNC’s 24-21 win • Followed that with a career-best three field goals against Virginia • Made all five extra points and kicked a 32-yard field goal in the win at Clemson • Only missed one field goal inside 47 yards, and his 49-yarder against ECU equaled the ninth-longest field goal in UNC history • Connected on 12 of 16 attempts for the season, including nine of 10 from 30-39 yards.

    2000 • Junior Season
    Earned second-team All-ACC honors and was one of 20 semifinalists for the Lou Groza Award, given annually to the nation’s top kicker • Had never kicked in a college game prior to the 2000 season, but had an outstanding season making 16 of 20 field goal attempts and all 30 extra point tries • Over 40 percent of his kickoffs went for touchbacks • He did not miss a field goal attempt inside of 47 yards • Booted a season-long 48-yard field goal in the Marshall win • That FG was the 11th-longest in school history • Made his final six field goal attempts of the season • Was first-team Academic All-ACC.

    East Mecklenburg High School
    Earned all-conference and all-county honors at East Mecklenburg High School in Charlotte • Kicked a 54-yard field goal, the longest in school history and the second-longest in state history • Played four years of soccer and set school records for assists in a game, season and career • Earned all-conference honors and led his team to the state finals • Member of the National Honor Society and the Spanish National Honor Society.

    Born Jeffrey Montgomery Reed on April 9, 1979, in Kansas City, Mo. • Majoring in journalism with a minor in communications • His father, Morris, played basketball for Wichita State • His mother, Pam, was a cheerleader for Wichita State • His sister, Kristen, played soccer at UNC Charlotte and one year professionally for the Carolina Speed.
