Here are a couple of news items from the NFL free agency market as it pertains to a pair of former Tar Heel standouts.

According to his agent, Pro Bowl tight end Alge Crumpler has agreed to a two-year deal with the Tennessee Titans. Crumpler was released Feb. 15 by the Atlanta Falcons after battling knee troubles in 2007. He caught 44 passes a year ago.

Former North Carolina all-america linebacker Brian Simmons was released last week by the New Orleans Saints a year after signing a three-year contract with the team. Simmons became expendable after the Saints traded for linebacker Jonathan Vilma of the New York Jets. A native of New Bern, N.C., Simmons posted 27 tackles and one sack last season. The 10-year veteran played his first nine seasons in Cincinnati.
