Several members of the University of North Carolina football team recently participated in the National Education Association's Read Across America program, an annual reading motivation and awareness program that calls for every child in every community to celebrate reading on March 2, the birthday of beloved children's author Dr. Seuss.
Carolina players Marvin Austin, Greg Little, Quinton Coples, Mike Ingersoll, Ed Barham, Gene Robinson, Ryan Taylor, A.J. Blue, Robert Quinn, Da'Norris Searcy, Erik Highsmith and Kevin Reddick visited Creekside Elementary in Durham, where they read several Dr. Suess books to the first graders.
"I enjoy giving back to the community," said Quinn, an All-America candidate at defensive end. "I'm an older football player now and I feel like if I can make a difference I a kids life, then it's a worthwhile endeavor. I like to talk to the kids and tell them that if you put in 100 percent and work hard you can be successful. I'm still a kid at heart and enjoy interacting with them."
