New Haven, Conn. - North Carolina's Kendric Burney and Mississippi's Dexter McLuster have been named The Walter Camp Football Foundation National Defensive and Offensive Players of the Week for games ending November 14.

About the Award: This is the sixth year that the Walter Camp Football Foundation will honor one offensive and one defensive player as its national Bowl Subdivision player of the week during the regular season. Recipients are selected by a panel of national media members and administered by the Walter Camp Football Foundation.

    DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
    Kendric Burney, NORTH CAROLINA
    Junior, Cornerback, Jacksonville, NC/Southwest Onslow

North Carolina junior cornerback Kendric Burney made three interceptions, including one he returned 77 yards for a touchdown, as the Tar Heels upset 12th-ranked Miami, 33-24. Burney set a ACC-record with 170 interception return yards and added two tackles as UNC improved to 7-3, 3-3 in the conference.

    OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
    DEXTER McCLUSTER, OLE MISS
    Senior, Running Back, Largo, FL/Largo

Ole Miss senior running back Dexter McCluster set a school record with 282 rushing yards and scored four touchdowns as the Rebels defeated Tennessee, 42-17. McCluster, who had 324 all-purpose yards, scored on runs of 15, 23, 32 and 71 yards as Ole Miss earned its first win against Tennessee since 1983.

Walter Camp, "The Father of American football," first selected an All-America team in 1889. Camp - a former Yale University athlete and football coach - is also credited with developing play from scrimmage, set plays, the numerical assessment of goals and tries and the restriction of play to eleven men per side. The Walter Camp Football Foundation - a New Haven-based all-volunteer group - was founded in 1967 to perpetuate the ideals of Camp and to continue the tradition of selecting annually an All-America team.
