GREENSBORO, NC - After a record-setting, nine-under-par 63 in the second round, Tar Heel golfer Jack Fields had to settle for a tie for second place at the UNCG Bridgestone Golf Collegiate. As a team, the Tar Heels improved over the last round, moving from ninth to sixth with the help of strong final-day performances from Fields, junior Henry Zaytoun III and senior David Holzworth.

Fields, a sophomore from Southern Pines, N.C., continued his hot streak Sunday with a one-under-par 71 and finished the tournament wit a 10-under-par 206. However, Fields couldn't hold off the eventual medalist, Virginia's Amory Davis, who was one better on the tournament with an 11-under-par 205.

Zaytoun, from Raleigh, N.C., shot up from 40th on Saturday to finish tied for 22nd for the tournament. His five-under-par 67 on the round helped him to a one-under-par 215 total. Holzworth also rose, from 64th to 45th, with the help of an even round Sunday. The Chapel Hill native finished with a seven-over-par 223 for the tournament.

Freshman Michael McGowan and junior Kevin O'Connell rounded out the team score for the Tar Heels. McGowan, a freshman from Southern Pines, N.C., finished 58th overall with a nine-over-par 225. O'Connell, a junior from Cary, N.C., finished at 76th with a 15-over-par 231.

Two Tar Heels competed as individuals in the event. Chase MacFarland, a senior from Savannah, Ga., finished with a four-over-par 220, good enough for 35th place. Junior Philip Chauncey, from Durham, N.C., had three 75s in a row for nine-over-par and a tie for 58th place with McGowan.

Georgia Tech, in winning the UNCG Bridgestone, set the record for lowest winning score in tournament history, finishing Sunday with an 843. The event was played at Forest Oaks Country Club. The par-72 course features a 7,217 yard layout.
