    Greensboro, N.C. -

The Carolina men's golf team finished tied for sixth place in the Bridgestone Golf Collegiate at Forest Oaks Country Club in Greensboro, N.C. UNC finished with an 11-over 299 second round and 593 total. Play was shortened to two rounds after a weather delay Saturday. Patrick Barrett and Michael McGowan tied for 15th place, scoring 147 final.

McGowan, a junior from Southern Pines, N.C., had a second round score of 72, firing four birdies on the day. Barrett, a senior from Pinehurst, N.C., scored a 5-over 77 in the second round, and shot a birdie on his first hole. Junior Clark Palmer, from Augusta, Ga., had a 2-over-par 74 second round and finished tied for 22nd with a 148 final. Brandon Dalinka, a freshman from Newtown, Pa., carded a 4-over 76 final round, and finished the tournament with an overall score of 151 tied for 43rd place. Senior Matt Raudenbush, from Pine Valley, N.J., came in tied for 52nd place, recording a 5-over 77 final round and 152 total.

"Today we got off to a great start and through about nine holes were 3-under-par and in the lead," said Tar Heel head coach Andrew Sapp. "Unfortunately, the last nine holes were another story. We had three double bogies on number 15 and that took the wind out of our sails. We also didn't play our final three holes well giving up some shots there. In a tight race every shot counts and those few shots were the difference between finishing third and sixth. We need to learn to be tougher down the stretch. Having a chance to win was a great experience for this team, but we will have to close the deal next time we have that opportunity."

South Carolina finished one spot ahead of UNC with a 592 total. The Heels tied with Kentucky, Purdue, and Michigan for sixth place at 593.
