CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - University of North Carolina golfer Barden Berry has been selected to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America At-Large Third Team as announced Tuesday by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Berry, a senior from Kinston, N.C., was earlier named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District At-Large First Team.

Berry was a starter in all of Carolina's 11 tournaments this year and carded four top-20 finishes. Berry posted four rounds of even par and nine rounds under-par, two in the 60s. He concluded the year with a 73.56 scoring average.

Berry, a psychology major, earned second-team Academic All-District recognition last year and was a 2007 Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar. He is part of UNC's honors program and a recipient of the Athletic Director's Scholar-Athlete Award and the McCaskill Award, given for excellence in athletics, scholarship and community service. A member of Phi Beta Kappa honorary society, Berry carries a 3.89 grade point average and was the recipient of the Carolina Leadership Academy's highest honor, the Three-Dimensional Leader Award.
