Coach Joe Breschi on Chris Madalon
"Chris Madalon did a great job last year. He's a veteran goalie for us. I would expect him to be more confident and sure of himself in the cage this year. He had a very solid year last year but I think he wants to be consistent and get through a whole season. He's done a nice job in preparing himself for this year. He's does a nice job on outlet passes, controlling the defense. Becoming more of a voice of the defense is a big thing he has worked on."
2010 (Redshirt Junior): Earned the starting goalkeeper job for the Tar Heels after redshirting in 2009...an All-ACC selection...started all 16 games, playing 900 plus minutes...made 145 saves and allowed 133 goals for a save percentage of .522...finished with a goalie record of 12-3 while facing 473 shots...finished third on the team in ground balls with 45...had a goals against average of 8.86...reached double digits in saves seven times, including a career high 14 against both Virginia and Delaware...his best games from a percentage viewpoint were Navy (13 saves, 4 goals allowed), UMBC (13, 7), Bryant (9, 4), Dartmouth (6, 3), Maryland (11, 7) and Virginia (14, 7)...posted a career high six ground balls each against Lehigh and Navy...had five against Maryland and four each against Jacksonville and UMBC...had eight caused turnovers on the campaign.
2008 (Sophomore): Played in five games...saw 44 minutes, 35 seconds in goal, facing 18 shots...had six saves and four goals allowed...also had four ground balls...had three saves against Bellarmine and two versus Marist...had a season goals against average of 5.38...named to the 2007-08 ACC Academic Honor Roll.
2007 (Freshman): Saw action in four games as a freshman, making 10 saves and allowing eight goals in 47 minutes, 56 seconds of play...had a season-high six saves while playing 27 minutes against Providence...also had a season-high two ground balls in the Providence game...played a little over seven minutes against Vermont and made two saves.
Community Service & Leadership: A Veteran Leader in the Carolina Leadership Academy in 2009-10...participates in Carolina Dreams Program in conjunction with N.C. Children's Hospital...helped develop a Rainbow Soccer Program in association with the Human Rights Center of Carrboro.
Prep: Was one of the best goalkeeper recruits in the nation in 2006...graduated in 2006 from Darien High School...coached in lacrosse by Jeff Brameier...led teams to 63-4 overall record during his time there...squad was ranked as high as No. 4 nationally...led lacrosse to undefeated home season his junior and senior years...was a defenseman on the ice hockey team for three years and a goalkeeper on the lacrosse team for four years...high school All-America as a senior...led team as a senior to FCIAC and state championships while squad posted a 21-1 record and was rated in the Top 10 nationally...was the captain and most valuable player of that team...named first-team All-State and first-team All-FCIAC...Most Valuable Player of the FCIAC Tournament...in 2005 was tapped for the Super Junior Connecticut Select Team...led Darien to the FCIAC and state titles and a Top 5 national ranking in 2005 when the team went 23-0...was also a high school All-America that season...state tournament MVP...second-team All-State and second-team All-FCIAC...as a sophomore he was honorable mention All-FCIAC...led squad to FCIAC title that year...a part of Team Merrill Lynch won championship of Vail Men's Elite Shootout in 2009...was defensive MVP of 2009 Vail Shootout... participated in safe rides program to prevent drinking and driving.
Personal: Christopher David Madalon was born April 12, 1988 in Greenwich, Conn. ...nicknamed Mads...the son of Joe and Donna Madalon...has two sisters - Danielle, 29, and Melissa, 21...has two brothers - Matt, 27, and Mike, 24...majors in Management & Society.

1. My favorite thing about wearing the Carolina Blue is the guys on the team.
2. I love competing for this incredible coaching staff because they're always trying to raise the bar.
3. My most underrated strength about my lacrosse game is my dangles.
4. My best friend on my high school lacrosse team was undecided, that's too hard to call.
5. Every high school recruit should dream of becoming a Tar Heel because there's nothing better than Carolina Blue.

1. An ideal Saturday afternoon in the summer is spent on the beach.
2. My favorite professional sports team is the New York Giants.
3. The best movie I've ever seen on a lacrosse bus trip is How To Train Your Dragon.
4. The foreign country I would love to visit the most is Italy because of my ancestry.

1. My favorite tailgate foods and beverages are Buffalo chicken, chicken Caesar salad, BBQ ribs, M&M chocolate pretzels and Gatorade.
2. My favorite fast food restaurant is Chick-fil-A because of their milkshakes.
3. Sweet, salty or both? Spicy.
4. My favorite food made by a relative is my Mom's baked ziti.
5. My favorite Chapel Hill dining spot is recently established Wings, close second is Buns, Burgers and Fries.

1. If I possessed the gift of time travel, I would go to future when technology is even more ridiculous.
2. The person in history I would most want to have dinner with is Michael Jordan.
3. People would be very surprised to know I make magic happen in the kitchen.
4. In a quarter century I would love to be living in a big house on the beach with big glass windows, multiple recliners and a monster TV while working at home.
