Tar Heels' Shriver Grabs National Honors

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - North Carolina senior forward Brian Shriver, who scored twice in the Tar Heels' 2-0 win at Duke last Friday, was honored for his efforts with national player of the week honors from TopDrawerSoccer.com Monday. Additionally, Shriver was named to the site's national team of the week and also claimed a spot on the College Soccer News National Team of the Week. In the latest edition of the Carolina-Duke rivalry, Shriver scored in the 18th minute on header off a Zach Loyd cross and followed in the 74th with an unassisted strike to lead the Tar Heels to their first win in Durham since 2000. With the two goals, Shriver took over the Tar Heels' scoring lead and now has nine goals on the year after tallying eight over his first three seasons at UNC. He has 19 points this season for the most by a UNC player since Ben Hunter's 31 points in 2005. Shriver, who is tied for second in the ACC in goals and is fourth in points, and the Tar Heels will be back in action Tuesday at William & Mary at 7 p.m.
