CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - North Carolina senior midfielder Michael Callahan has been selected to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District III first team, the College Sports Information Directors of America announced Thursday. Callahan is a four-year starter and owns a 3.37 grade point average in economics.

The Cary native has started 15 games this season, tallying six points on a goal and four assists. Callahan, who was also a candidate for the Lowe's Senior CLASS Award, enters this weekend's match with No. 1 Wake Forest with 28 career points (8 goals, 12 assists) in 74 games.

The CoSIDA honor is the latest academic accolade for Callahan, who is a three-time member of the ACC Academic Honor Roll and a Dean's List student. He earned UNC's Scholar-Athlete Award winner for men's soccer and a spot on the All-ACC Academic Men's Soccer Team last season.

By earning a spot on the all-district first team, Callahan is now eligible for Academic All-America honors, which will be announced next month.
