2008-09: Redshirt season • Went 17-4 wrestling unattached at 174 pounds • Posted two pins and four major decisions • Captured the Mat Town Open title with a 4-0 record • Also took third at the Hokie Open with a 4-1 mark and was seventh at the Southern Scuffle with a 7-2 mark, which included a pin of No. 20 Hunter Meys of Boston University • Earned All-America honors in the offseason with a fifth-place finish at University Men's Freestyle Nationals.
2007-08: Registered a 14-15 overall record as the Tar Heels' starter at 184 pounds for much of the season • Went 5-8 in duals and 1-3 versus the ACC • Had three pins and a pair of major decision victories • Placed fourth at the ACC Championships with a win over Duke's John Barone (8-3) at the event • Took fourth place at the Michigan State Open in the Freshman/Sophomore Division with a 3-2 record • Also placed seventh at the Southern Scuffle after logging a 5-2 mark.
