  • 2009-10 Schedule
  • CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The University of North Carolina wrestling squad will face a challenging schedule in 2009-10 with the hopes of building another deep, talented team for the end-of-season Atlantic Coast Conference and NCAA championships. The Tar Heels open the season Nov. 7 at the NC State Open in Raleigh, and will wrestle in Chapel Hill on three occasions while renovations continue at Carmichael Auditorium.

Carolina will host its annual home dual event Sunday, Nov. 15 with the ACC Challenge. The Tar Heels will take on Bucknell, American and Gardner-Webb with fellow ACC squads Virginia and Virginia Tech joining the action at Eddie Smith Field House.

UNC will also host Maryland Dec. 4 and Duke Jan. 12 in home ACC duals. The Tar Heels travel to Virginia Tech Jan. 16, Virginia Jan. 22 and NC State Feb. 5 to round out the league dual slate.

Open tournaments highlighting the schedule include the Reno Tournament of Champions Dec. 20 and the annual Southern Scuffle in Greensboro Dec. 29-30.

After meeting Binghamton, Lehigh and Columbia and the Northeast Duals Nov. 28, the Tar Heels will also face Navy, Edinboro, Cleveland State, Clarion and The Citadel in non-league dual action.

The Tar Heels are coming off a 2008-09 season that saw them send seven qualifiers to the NCAA Championships, four of which return this season - Dennis Drury, Mike Rappo, Thomas Scotton and Nick Stabile.
