North Carolina placed a pair of freshman wrestlers on the 2012 All-ACC Academic Team as was announced by Commissioner Johns Swofford Thursday. Frank Abbondanza and Alex Utley each earned a spot on the 19-member 2011-12 All-ACC Wrestling Academic Team.

North Carolina assistant wrestling coach Cary Kolat will vie for a spot on the United States Olympic Wrestling Team this weekend as he takes part in the Olympic Trials in Iowa City, Iowa. The trials are set for April 21-22 and will be streamed live on NBCOlympics.com.

UNC assistant wrestling coach Cary Kolat along with fellow North Carolina Regional Training Center member Drew Headlee won titles at the Final Olympic Trials Qualifier in Cedar Falls, Iowa over the weekend. Kolat claimed the crown at 66 kg (145.5 lbs) over Joe Johnston by a 2-0 and 1-0 margin, while Headlee won the 60 kg (132 lbs) division over Andrew Hochstrasser by 4-0 and 4-3.

Senior Thomas Ferguson went 1-1 at the NCAA Championships Friday and sophomore Corey Mock went 0-1 as the final two Tar Heels competing had their seasons come to an end. Ferguson finishes the year 23-14, while Mock posts a 27-12 in his second year as a Tar Heel.

Senior Thomas Ferguson and sophomore Corey Mock each went 1-1 on the opening day of the NCAA Championships in St. Louis Thursday as the pair advanced to the second day of competition. Freshman Evan Henderson went 1-2 in his first appearance at the NCAA Championships as his season came to an end.
