CHAPEL HILL --- North Carolina (11-1) kicks off 2010 with in-state foe Winston-Salem State Saturday at 2 p.m. at Carmichael. UNC is coming off its highest scoring output of the season in a 104-65 win over East Tennessee State on Thursday. Winston-Salem State (2-9) enters the game after an 84-54 loss at Campbell on Wednesday. Carolina is ranked No. 7 in both the AP poll and the coaches’ poll. Winston-Salem State is unranked.

WINSTON-SALEM STATE SERIES NOTES
• North Carolina is 1-0 all-time against Winston-Salem State, with the lone matchup in the series coming during the 2006-07 season. UNC defeated the Lady Rams, 83-32, in Chapel Hill.

• Junior guard Rene Rector leads WSSU in scoring with 12.3 points per game.
• Junior forward/center Vontisha Woods is second on the team in scoring and tops in rebounding, averaging 11.2 points and 7.5 boards per outing.
TAR HEELS TOUGH TO BEAT AT HOME
Carolina’s overall home record since the beginning of the 2004-05 season is 93-3. The Tar Heels have won 47 of 48 in Chapel Hill, including their last 16 home conference games. In addition, UNC has won 87 of its last 88 non-conference home games.
CAROLINA IN CARMICHAEL
• Carolina returned to Carmichael Tuesday after a year and a half absence, during which the Tar Heels won 25 of 26 games at the Dean E. Smith Center.
• UNC is 375-83 (.819) all-time in Carmichael, its primary home since the first varsity season of 1974-75.
• Prior to the most recent renovation, the Tar Heels were on quite a roll in the historic gym. Beginning with the 2001-02 season, Carolina posted a 103-6 home record in Carmichael.
