CHAPEL HILL --- North Carolina (17-0, 3-0 ACC) steps out of conference for a top-2 matchup as the Tar Heels host fellow unbeaten Connecticut Monday night at 7 at the Smith Center. Carolina is coming off an impressive 103-74 win over Virginia on Friday in which Carolina scored its most points ever against the Cavaliers. Connecticut is coming off an equally impressive 107-53 thumping of Syracuse on Saturday. Carolina is ranked No. 2 in both the AP poll and the coaches' poll. Connecticut is ranked No. 1 in both polls.

CONNECTICUT SERIES NOTES
North Carolina is 5-3 all-time against Connecticut, including a 2-0 mark in Chapel Hill.
UNC has won three of the last four matchups with UConn, including an 82-76 win in Chapel Hill in 2007.
Monday's game will mark the fifth straight season in which the two teams have met in the regular season.
UConn won last year's meeting in Storrs, 82-71.
FACING THE NATION'S TOP-RANKED TEAM
Carolina is 2-24 all-time against the No. 1 team in the AP poll.
The Tar Heels have faced a top-ranked Connecticut team twice - the 97-74 loss in Storrs in 2001 and the 82-71 loss in Storrs in 2008.
Monday's game will mark the third time Carolina has faced the top-ranked team as the No. 2 team in the AP poll. No. 2 UNC defeated No. 1 Duke, 77-65, in 2006 and lost to No. 1 Duke, 64-53 in 2007. Both games were played in Chapel Hill.
NOTING THE HUSKIES
Connecticut is 17-0 on the year following a 107-53 home win over Syracuse on Saturday.
The Huskies have three players averaging at least 16 points per game, with sophomore Maya Moore leading the team with a 19.6 average. Renee Montgomery (16.9) and Tina Charles (16.6) also score more than 16 per contest, while Moore and Charles each average 9.1 rebounds per outing.
TAR HEELS TOUGH TO BEAT AT HOME
The Jan. 16 win over Virginia improved Carolina's overall home record since the beginning of the 2004-05 season to 77-2. The Tar Heels have won 31 straight in Chapel Hill, including their last 10 home conference games. With the win over Austin Peay on Dec. 30, the Tar Heels have now won 76 consecutive non-conference home games. Carolina's last home setback against a non-conference opponent was a 94-77 loss to Oklahoma on Jan. 21, 2001.
STREAKS
Carolina has won 17 in a row to start the 2008-09 season, marking the third time in four seasons that the Tar Heels have started at least 17-0. The 2005-06 team started 22-0, while the 06-07 squad started 24-0.
Connecticut has won 17 in a row to start the season for the seventh time since 1994-95.
