    ATLANTA --- North Carolina (17-1, 3-0 ACC) returns to conference play Thursday when the Tar Heels head to Atlanta to face Georgia Tech at 7 p.m. at Alexander Memorial Coliseum. Carolina is coming off its first loss of the season on Monday, an 88-58 setback to top-ranked Connecticut. Georgia Tech is coming off a 59-49 loss at Florida State on Sunday. Carolina is ranked No. 2 in the AP poll and No. 3 in the coaches' poll. Georgia Tech is receiving votes in both polls.

    GEORGIA TECH SERIES NOTES
    • North Carolina is 49-11 all-time against Georgia Tech, including a 21-6 mark in Atlanta.
    • The Tar Heels defeated the Yellow Jackets in both regular season matchups in 2007-08. UNC won 99-78 in Chapel Hill and 75-61 in Atlanta.
    • UNC has won 12 straight games in the series, dating back to an 81-62 home loss in 2002.
    • The 12 game winning streak marks the third time in the series that the Tar Heels have won at least 10 in a row. Carolina won 17 straight from 1980-88 and 13 straight from 1993-99.
    • Carolina has more wins over Georgia Tech than any other ACC opponent except for Wake Forest (54-12).

    NOTING THE YELLOW JACKETS
    • Georgia Tech is 13-4 on the year following a 59-49 loss at Florida State on Sunday.
    • Sophomore guard/forward Alex Montgomery leads the Yellow Jackets in both scoring and rebounding with 13.8 points and 6.9 rebounds per contest.
    • Senior guard Jacqua Williams is second in scoring with 13.7 points per game and also leads the team with 71 steals and 68 assists.

    STREAKS
    • Carolina has won 17 of 18 to start the 2008-09 season.
    • UNC has also won 16 consecutive regular season ACC contests and 22 straight games over ACC opponents. Carolina's last loss to an ACC team came at Duke on Feb. 25, 2007.
    • Georgia Tech has lost two of its last three games since winning eight in a row from Nov. 30 to Jan. 4. The Yellow Jackets have won eight of nine at home, with the lone loss coming to Boston College on Jan. 8.
