    CHAPEL HILL --- North Carolina (25-2, 12-0 Atlantic Coast Conference) opens a season-ending homestand Monday night when the Tar Heels welcome NC State to Carmichael Auditorium at 7 p.m. Carolina is coming off a 79-61 win at Miami on Feb. 21. NC State enters the contest with a record of 17-9 (5-6 ACC) after a 56-36 win over Wake Forest on Feb. 17. UNC is ranked No. 2 in both the AP poll and the ESPN/USA Today coaches' poll for the second week in a row. NC State is unranked.

    NC STATE SERIES NOTES
    • North Carolina is 36-49 all-time against NC State, including a 19-16 mark in Chapel Hill.
    • Carolina topped the Wolfpack earlier in the season, a 79-70 victory on Jan. 13 in Raleigh.
    • While NC State still holds a sizable advantage in the all-time series, Carolina has held the upper hand in recent years. The Tar Heels have won 14 of the last 16 meetings, their most successful stretch ever against the Wolfpack.
    • Of teams with at least 10 all-time meetings with UNC, only NC State (49-36), Old Dominion (12- 7) and Tennessee (14-3) have winning records.

    NOTING THE HEAD COACHES
    • Monday's matchup features two of the four winningest active coaches in Division I women's basketball. North Carolina's Sylvia Hatchell (776 career wins) and NC State's Kay Yow (725) rank third and fourth, respectively, on the active list.
    • Hatchell (inducted in 2004) and Yow (inducted in 2000) are both members of the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame.
    • Hatchell served as an assistant under Yow when the two coached the U.S. Olympic Team to a gold medal at the 1988 Summer Games in Seoul, South Korea.

    NOTING THE WOLFPACK
    • NC State is 17-9 on the season (5-6 in the ACC) after a 56-36 win over Wake Forest on Feb. 17.
    • The Wolfpack is led in scoring and rebounding by senior forward Khadijah Whittington. Whittington averages 17.0 points and 11.4 rebounds per game and leads the ACC in rebounding.

    STREAKS
    • Carolina has won 16 of its last 17 and eight in a row. The Tar Heels have also opened the season with 12 straight conference wins, their best start since the ACC adopted a 14-game schedule.
