Carolina Rowing Sets Open Tryouts

The North Carolina rowing program will hold open tryouts for the 2010-11 season in September, shortly after the start of the school year. The process will begin with an interest meeting on Aug. 26 at 7:30 p.m. at Eddie Smith Field House. Additional information on the tryouts, which will take place the first week of September, will be available at the meeting. All female undergraduate students are invited to try out, and no prior rowing experience is necessary. Carolina rowing is heading into its 14th year as a varsity program at UNC. The team consists of a varsity squad, made up of experienced rowers, and a novice squad, which consists largely of student-athletes who had no rowing experience when they came to UNC. The Tar Heels race in the fall and the spring, with the latter being the NCAA and Atlantic Coast Conference season. Before beginning tryouts, each candidate will need a recent athletic physical.
