    Senior back Melanie Brill had a goal and an assist and anchored UNC's defense that pitched a shutout in field hockey's 3-0 win at Wake Forest to earn Progress Energy Tar Heel of the Week honors for September 28-October 4, 2009.

    Brill, a senior from Oley, Pa., played major roles on both ends of the field as the second-ranked Tar Heels beat No. 4 Wake Forest in Winston-Salem. On the offensive end, Brill assisted on the second goal of the game and scored the third one herself, both on penalty corners. On the other end, she helped anchor the Tar Heel defense as Carolina picked up its ninth shutout of the season and its eighth in a row.

    Quinn had four tackles for losses including a career-high three quarterback sacks in Carolina's 16-3 loss to Virginia.

    Senior goalkeeper Brooks Haggerty led No. 5 North Carolina to a pair of shutouts on the week, including a 1-0 overtime victory over No. 12 Virginia. The Cary, N.C., native made seven saves and organized a cohesive defensive unit that allowed just yielded only 11 total shots in victories over Radford and Virginia. Haggerty made three saves versus the Highlanders and followed with four stops in the key win over the Cavaliers. With two shutouts last week, Haggerty leads the ACC with four on the season. He has allowed just five goals and has made 23 saves en route to a 0.53 goals against average.

    Cora Harms assisted Carolina to two league wins this week over Boston College and Maryland. Harms, the team's setter, notched 105 assists in two matches to service the Tar Heels attack. Harms registered a career best 64 assists in a 3-2 win over Boston College Friday. The Placerville, Calif. native is averaging 11.10 assists per set in four league games recording 166 of her 257 total assists in conference play. Harms ranks atop the league in assists on the young conference season.
