GREENSBORO, N.C. - North Carolina's Britt van Beek, Illse Davids and Katelyn Falgowski have earned All-Atlantic Coast Conference honors, as announced Wednesday by the league. The Tar Heel trio was among 17 players honored from the six ACC teams. Van Beek, a senior from Den Bosch, the Netherlands, was named to the team for the first time. Davids, a junior from Plumstead, South Africa, and Falgowski, a sophomore from Landenberg, Pa., earned spots on the team for the second year in a row.

Maryland and Wake Forest placed four players each on the team, while Duke and UNC each had three, Virginia had two and Boston College one. Ten team members are repeat honorees from 2007.

Van Beek, a forward/midfielder and the Tar Heel captain, ranks second on the team in goals this fall with a career-high total of 11 and also has four assists. She has played in every game since arriving at UNC as a freshman.

Davids, a midfielder, leads the team in assists with seven and also has seven goals, third on the team.

Falgowski, a midfielder who missed the Carolina preseason while competing in China as part of the U.S. National Team, has four goals and three assists this fall.

Maryland's Katie O'Donnell was named ACC Offensive Player of the Year for the second year in a row. The Terrapins' Susie Rowe was named ACC Defensive Player of the Year. Wake Forest's Jennifer Averill was honored as the ACC Coach of the Year.

The Tar Heels (14-4) open play in the ACC Tournament on Friday at Duke's Jack Katz Stadium in Durham, N.C. As the No. 2 seed, UNC will face the winner of Thursday's first round game between third-seeded Wake Forest and sixth-seeded Boston College. The winner of Friday's semifinal will advance to the league championship game on Sunday at 1 p.m.

Thursday's first-round games and Friday's semifinal games will air live on ACC Select. There is no charge for the broadcasts. Sunday's championship will air on the Regional Sports Networks on a tape-delayed basis. For more broadcast information, click here.
