Bethlehem, Pa. - Two former Tar Heel golfers played in the U.S. Women's Open this past weekend. Meaghan Francella, the 2003 Atlantic Coast Conference champion and a first-team All-America at Carolina in 2004, tied for 17th place while Allie White, an All-ACC performer this past year in her freshman season, tied for 65th place.

Francella fired rounds of 73-72-74-73 for an eight-over-par 292 total at Saucon Valley Country Club in Bethlehem, Pa., which features a par 71, 6,740-yard layout. Francella finished just eight strokes behind champion Eun Hee Ji who tallied an even par 284 total. White, playing as an amateur, carded rounds of 74-73-78-76 for a 301 total.
