Spencer Welborn joined the Academic Support Program for Student-Athletes in January of 2008 as an academic counselor. In addition to working with the gymnastics team, he oversees the scholarship and awards division for the athletic department.
Welborn came to Chapel Hill from the University of Miami (Fla.), where he worked with baseball and football student-athletes and oversaw the scholarship and awards program for the athletic department in Miami. A native of Durham and graduate of Elon, where he majored in Business Administration, he earned his Master's in Sport Administration from the University of Miami in 2007.
While in Miami, Welborn also worked with the Florida Marlins, Orange Bowl Committee and Sony Ericsson Open, and coached a middle school baseball team.
