      North Carolina will take on Maryland for the second time this week on Friday at 7:00 in Carmichael Arena. The Heels were edged out by the Terps Sunday 193.125-194.475 in College Park.

    Durkac Named EAGL Gymnast Of The Week

    Durkac won two individual event titles - all-around and uneven bars - in a three-team meet at Maryland. She scored a personal-best 39.150 to capture the all-around and had a 9.825 to win the uneven bars. She eclipsed her previous best score in the all-around by more than a half-point. She also finished with a person-best vault score of 9.725 to finish eighth, had a 9.800 on the balance beam to take third and a 9.775 on floor for fifth place.

    North Carolina took second place Sunday in a tri-meet with Maryland and Bowling Green, moving to 7-1 on the season. The Heels posted a team total of 193.125, sandwiched between Maryland with 194.475 and Bowling Green with 191.500. Junior Elizabeth Durkac set two personal bests and took first place in the all-around with a 39.150.

    UNC will travel to Maryland Sunday to take on the Terrapins and the Bowling Green Falcons in a tri-meet. The Tar Heels are 6-0 this season and look to win after losing to the Terps last year.

    North Carolina student-athletes who are 2011-12 recipients of two prestigious honors - Athletic Director's Scholar-Athletes and Tar Heel Leaders of Distinction - were recognized Thursday during halftime of the UNC men's basketball team's win over visiting NC State at the Dean E. Smith Center.
