Five Tar Heels Named All-South | Follow The Tar Heels On Twitter
Four University of North Carolina women's lacrosse players picked up 2012 All-America honors from the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association, the IWLCA announced on Sunday night. Senior attacker Becky Lynch grabbed first-team honors, senior midfielder Laura Zimmerman and sophomore defender Sloane Serpe were on the second team and junior midfielder Kara Cannizzaro was named to the third team.

Four of the 10 members of the University of North Carolina's women's lacrosse incoming freshman class were named recently to the 2012 Under Armour High School All-America Classic, to be played on June 30 at Towson University's Johnny Unitas Stadium in Towson, Md. The quartet of future Tar Heels will enroll at UNC this fall.

North Carolina had five players on the two South Region teams: senior attacker Becky Lynch (1st team), sophomore defender Sloane Serpe (1st), senior midfielder Laura Zimmerman (1st), junior midfielder Kara Cannizzaro (2nd) and sophomore attacker Abbey Friend (2nd).

The University of North Carolina women's lacrosse team earned its best team grade point average on record (since at least 1999) in the spring of 2012, head coach Jenny Levy announced on Wednesday. The squad's combined GPA this spring was 3.227 (on a 4.0 scale), up from 3.014 in the fall of 2011. UNC academic records for the team go back as far as the 1999-2000 academic year. Twenty-five of 31 players on the squad earned a GPA of 3.0 or better in the spring of 2012.
