RALEIGH - The North Carolina field hockey and women's soccer teams celebrated their 2009 national titles on Friday with a visit to the Governor's Mansion. Bev Perdue, North Carolina's first female governor, hosted a reception for the teams and spoke to the student-athlete and coaches about the impact they can - and do - have on children, and girls in particular.

Governor Perdue mingled with the student-athletes, discussing everything from classes to reality television, before gathering each group for a photo.

The Tar Heel field hockey team beat previously-undefeated Maryland 3-2 on Nov. 22 in Winston-Salem to claim the program's sixth title.

The Carolina women's soccer team beat Stanford, also top-ranked and previously unbeaten, 1-0 on Dec. 6 in College Station, Texas. The win gave UNC its 21st national title in program history.
