Despite outshooting Boston College 22-5, the fourth-ranked North Carolina women's soccer team needed an own goal in the 103rd minute to advance to the 2009 ACC Women's Soccer Championship Game, beating the Eagles 1-0 to improve to 16-3-1 on the season. Casey Nogueira, who was brilliant and had 10 shots in the game including five on goal, carried a ball into the deep left corner of the pitch and sent a cross intended for Jessica McDonald who was all alone on the four-yard line. But before Nogueira's pass got to McDonald, Boston College's Alyssa Pember deflected the ball past her own goalkeeper, Jilian Mastroianni, who had made a career-high 11 saves. UNC will play top-seeded Florida State Sunday at 2 p.m. at WakeMed Soccer Park for the ACC title.
