Forward Casey Nogueira earned MVP honors in leading the women's soccer team
to its 19th ACC Tournament championship and is the Progress Energy Tar Heel Performer of the Week for November 3-9, 2008. Nogueira, a junior from Raleigh, won
both ACC Offensive Player of the Year honors and Tournament MVP honors
during the week as the Tar Heels swept to their fourth ACC Tourney title in
a row. Nogueira had a goal in both the 2-0 semifinal win over Boston
College and the 3-0 championship game win over Virginia Tech as UNC improved
to 19-1-2 on the campaign.

Sophomore, Toms River, N.J.
Kane won two events and swam on the winning 200-yard medley relay as the Tar
Heels beat Maryland 181-118 and George Mason 219-80 in dual-meet action.
Kane anchored the 200 medley relay to a win in 1:43.28, less than a second
off the Tar Heels' season best. She took top honors in the 50 free with a
season-best 23.29, was first in the 100 free in 50.89 and was second in the
200 free in a season best 1:51.62.
JOE KINDERWATER
Men's Swimming
Sophomore, Lancaster, Pa.
Kinderwater swept the distance freestyle events in season best times as the
Tar Heels won dual meets from George Mason 228-71 and Maryland 213.5-83.5.
Kinderwater clocked a 9:09.44 in the 1000 freestyle and a 4:29.45 to improve
his times from earlier in the campaign in both events and help lift the Tar
Heels above the .500 mark in dual meet action.
Brianna Eskola

Brianna Eskola helped lead the Tar Heels to their sixth consecutive win and
into a tie atop the ACC standings with a 3-2 win at Virginia before closing
out the weekend with a 3-0 win at Virginia Tech on Saturday. Eskola hit the
30-dig mark for the fourth time in 2008 and eclipsed the 20-dig total for
the 13th time. The Columbia Heights, Minn. native, moved into first in the
ACC digs standings as she averaged 6.00 per set over the weekend with 30
against Virginia and another 18 against Virginia Tech. Eskola and the Tar
Heels entered the week ranked third in the country in digs per set as the
defense has helped lead Carolina into a tie for first place in the ACC.
HAKEEM NICKS

Nicks helped lead the Tar Heels to a 28-7 victory over No. 20 Georgia Tech
with 72 yards receiving and a touchdown, and set the school record for most
receiving yards in a career with 2,472. Nicks set the record in just under
three seasons with the Tar Heels, breaking the mark held by former four-year
player Corey Holliday (1989-93). Nicks' 31-yard touchdown reception was his
eighth of the year and 17th of his career. Nicks has caught a pass in 22
straight games and 31 of his 32 games played. He has at least three catches
in all nine games this season.

Paschal had a team-high 10 tackles (9 solo), one tackle for loss, one
quarterback hurry and recovered a fumble in Carolina's 28-7 victory over No.
20 Georgia Tech. It was his fourth double-digit game of the year.

A true freshman from Ladson, S.C., Quinn posted six tackles, had one tackle
for loss and forced two fumbles in Carolina's 28-7 win over No. 20 Georgia
Tech.
Terrence Brown

P, Sr., Fresno, Calif.
Brown averaged 45.7 yards per punt and two of his punts were either muffed
or fumbled by Georgia Tech, including one in the third quarter that Carolina
recovered. UNC scored on the ensuing possession for a 14-0 lead. Brown had
two punts longer than 50 yards and downed three inside the 20-yard line.
VINCENT RAMIREZ
Wrestling, 141 pounds
Senior, Durham, N.C.
Senior Vincent Ramirez led a strong showing by North Carolina at the
Wolfpack Open by claiming the 141-pound title Saturday in Raleigh. The
Durham native went 5-0 on the day to lead a group of six Tar Heels that
posted top-three finishes. Ramirez opened with a pin and closed the day with
an 8-5 decision over UNC Greensboro's Chris Bencivenga in the title bout.
